Nigeria is strengthening economic ties with the United Arab Emirates through a sweeping trade agreement designed to boost commerce and attract fresh investment. Under the deal, the UAE will lift tariffs on more than 7,000 products, while Nigeria will gradually remove duties on about 6,000 items over the next five years. The pact aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s strategy of diversifying Nigeria’s investment partners beyond traditional Western markets to include Asia and the Middle East. It also reflects the UAE’s growing footprint in Africa, where Emirati firms have backed projects worth roughly $110 billion in the past five years. The renewed partnership follows the return of Emirates Airlines to Lagos, signaling a broader reset in bilateral relations.
