Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, has stated that US trade tariffs have a limited impact on the country compared with other nations, thanks to its large population, diverse economy, and multiple trading partners. Speaking at the Reuters NEXT Gulf summit in Abu Dhabi, Tuggar urged rich countries to move beyond a “Minecraft” approach to trade with Africa, where they simply extract resources. He argues for relationships built on mutual respect and a shared interest in Africa’s development, warning that without progress, challenges like irregular migration will persist. Tuggar also highlighted Nigeria’s strategic autonomy, noting its ability to trade with global partners like China, Brazil, and India, while leveraging its 230 million-strong domestic market and talent pool.
