NNPC Limited has officially joined the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and its target of achieving net-zero methane intensity by 2030. This partnership, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), provides a framework for accurate measurement, reporting, and best practices to reduce methane emissions in the oil and gas sector. This development comes after NNPC signed an MoU with TotalEnergies to deploy the Airborne Ultralight Spectrometer for Environmental Application (AUSEA) technology, designed to monitor and mitigate methane emissions across its upstream operations. This collaboration, highlighted at COP28 in Dubai, equips NNPC to monitor methane levels with precision, enhancing compliance with global environmental standards. By integrating such advanced technology, NNPC continues to lead the charge in the Nigerian oil sector’s transition toward more sustainable and responsible practices.
