Pan-African Air Travel Hindered by High Costs and Limited Connectivity

8

Intra-African air travel remains prohibitively expensive and inefficient, with travellers often forced to route through non-African hubs like Istanbul or Paris. Limited connectivity, dominance by a few major carriers, and a lack of budget airlines contribute to these challenges. High operational costs and restrictive visa policies further impede seamless travel across the continent. Despite shared languages and cultural ties, Africans face greater entry barriers than Western passport holders, hindering regional integration. Initiatives like the Single African Air Transport Market aim to liberalize air travel, but significant investment in infrastructure and policy reforms are needed to realize a truly connected African aviation network.
