SONA 2025: Key Announcements Focus on Growth, Digital IDs, and Welfare

In his 2025 State of the Nation Address, President Cyril Ramaphosa outlined several transformative initiatives for South Africa. A major infrastructure investment of over R940 billion aims to address critical gaps and boost economic growth, with significant contributions from public-private partnerships. Key initiatives include the introduction of a digital ID system, a commitment to the National Health Insurance scheme, and the expansion of a Basic Income Grant (BIG) to support low-income citizens. Ramaphosa also unveiled a R100 billion Black Economic Empowerment fund to support transformation. These measures aim to improve social welfare and drive sustainable development.
