South Africa is rolling out two new digital visa schemes—STAGES and MEETS—that promise to supercharge its film and business tourism sectors. Announced by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber, the initiatives aim to cut red tape and accelerate visa processing times. The first initiative, the Screen Talent and Global Entertainment Scheme (STAGES), will streamline entry for film production crews via a dedicated portal, helping avoid costly delays like the $22.4 million lost from a missed Netflix shoot. Meanwhile, the Meetings, Events, Exhibitions, and Tourism Scheme (MEETS) targets the MICE sector, ensuring international attendees for events like SA20 cricket and World Rugby Sevens can enter hassle-free. Industry leaders are hailing these reforms as game-changers that could restore lost momentum, attract global investment, and position South Africa as a top-tier destination for business and entertainment.
