Sudan’s Rival Factions Deny Responsibility for Attack on Aid Convoy

6

Sudan’s warring factions are trading accusations after a UN World Food Programme convoy was attacked in famine-hit North Darfur, where civilians have endured months of siege and starvation. The 16-truck convoy, carrying food to Alsayah village, was struck near Mellit, with three vehicles set ablaze but no casualties reported. The Rapid Support Forces blamed the Sudanese army, alleging a drone strike, while the army dismissed this as deflection from RSF atrocities in al-Fashir. With al-Fashir under relentless bombardment and camps for displaced people repeatedly attacked, famine has worsened across the region. Aid groups warn that 70 trucks remain stalled in Nyala, awaiting security guarantees, while civilians continue to face hunger and violence.
