Transparency International’s latest report delivers a sobering verdict: corruption remains a deeply entrenched problem across Sub-Saharan Africa. The region holds the lowest average score globally, with most of its 49 nations performing poorly on the Corruption Perceptions Index. Seychelles led the region with 68, though the report raised concerns about weakened enforcement. While seven countries have improved since 2012, 10 have significantly worsened, as gaps in institutional frameworks fuel public fund mismanagement. This corruption disproportionately harms vulnerable populations, undermining access to essential services. The watchdog urgently calls for governments to move beyond commitments and take decisive action by strengthening accountability, ensuring transparency, and protecting civic participation to improve living conditions for all.
