What’s Behind Russia’s New-Found Love of African Art?          

Interest in African art is escalating across the globe, but it is literally booming in Russia. Although any number of factors may account for the phenomenon, there is strong reason to believe that politics is playing a considerable role. With Russia’s conflict in Ukraine making it a pariah to most of Europe and the US, cultural exchanges have ceased, and Russian museums have turned to Africa to fill their walls.
