In some of the hardest-hit neighbourhoods, residents say they are being forced to manually bail water out of their homes, often relying on support from neighbours. One resident, Maria Nunes, described the situation as deeply challenging, with families struggling to cope as floodwaters continue to fill their homes and aid remains limited. She added that, in some cases, residents have had to pool their own money to buy fuel for pumps to help clear flooded roads.

Footage showed damaged homes, waterlogged rooms and household items floating in muddy floodwater. Another resident, Nelson Joao Adriano, said entire homes, including bedrooms, kitchens and living rooms, had been inundated, and called for families to be relocated from flood-prone areas.

Victims also criticised the authorities for failing to respond adequately, saying the stagnant water posed serious health risks and had made daily life unbearable. While the death toll from the floods rises, residents say they feel abandoned and are demanding urgent support.
