Ghana is actively courting private investors to help launch its first functional national airline in over two decades, signaling a decisive shift away from state-led aviation models. The government’s transport ministry has begun formal market outreach, seeking qualified airline operators or aviation investors to hold a majority equity stake in a new joint venture carrier based in Accra. The proposed airline would serve long-haul routes to Europe, North America, the Middle East, and Asia, alongside regional and cargo services. Initial operations are targeted no later than the first quarter of 2027. Ghana has been without a national carrier since Ghana Airways collapsed in 2004, leaving one of Africa’s most significant aviation markets without a state-backed flag carrier for more than 20 years.
