In celebration of Fela Kuti’s 87th posthumous birthday, Lagos is hosting Afrobeat Rebellion, an expansive three-month exhibition honoring the Afrobeat legend’s life. This immersive journey moves beyond his famous arrests and musical genius to explore the man behind the myth. Originally staged in Paris, the reimagined show—now housed at the Ecobank Pan-African Center—blends music, film, art, and performance to reintroduce Fela to a new generation. Curated by Seun Alli and produced by Papa Omotayo, it explores Fela’s political defiance, creative genius, and lasting cultural resonance through immersive installations and workshops. Beyond Fela himself, the exhibition mirrors Nigeria’s ongoing struggles for identity and liberation, urging young visitors to embrace courage, creativity, and radical imagination in shaping their own narratives.
