EFF Eyes GNU Role as DA Wavers in Coalition Turmoil

5

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is urging the Democratic Alliance (DA) to exit South Africa’s Government of National Unity (GNU), opening the door for the EFF to join. His call follows the DA’s announcement that it will quit the National Dialogue and vote against the budgets of ministers accused of corruption. The DA’s decision followed frustration over President Cyril Ramaphosa’s removal of DA MP Andrew Whitfield from a deputy minister post and his alleged failure to tackle ANC corruption. Malema views the DA’s ultimatum as political theater and believes the party should never have entered government in the first place. He argues that the DA’s presence undermines accountability, as they can’t oppose a government they are part of. As coalition cracks widen, Malema signals the EFF is waiting in the wings—ready to step in if the DA bows out, potentially reshaping South Africa’s political landscape.
