Ethiopian athletes dominated the 2025 Dubai Marathon, with Bute Gemechu winning the men’s race in a world-leading debut time of 2:04:51 and Bedatu Hirpa taking the women’s title in 2:18:27. The women’s race concluded dramatically as Hirpa overtook defending champion Dera Dida, who suffered severe stomach cramps in the final kilometer. Hirpa celebrated her win exuberantly, dedicating her success to her coach. Despite her distress, Dida secured second place with a personal best of 2:18:32, while fellow Ethiopian Tigist Girma finished third. In the men’s race, Gemechu pulled ahead at 35 kilometers, with fellow Ethiopians Berehanu Tsegu and Shifera Tamru completing the podium. Meanwhile, the 10K event saw Ethiopia’s Gemene Tunku and Morocco’s Yassir Ech Chaachoui claim victories in the female and male categories respectively.
