Rwanda is positioning itself to capture a larger share of Africa’s vast service market, estimated at a staggering $4 trillion under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). According to Trade and Industry Minister Prudence Sebahizi, the government is finalizing a new trade policy to boost digital trade and cross-border service exports, with a current market assessment underway in Djibouti. Rwanda’s strengths in sectors like tourism, ICT, logistics, and higher education give it a powerful competitive edge. However, the path forward requires overcoming regional barriers, as the recognition of professional qualifications across the region remains a challenge. Despite this, Rwandan companies in consulting and aviation are already expanding into neighboring markets. This ambitious push reflects a broader vision to transform homegrown expertise and innovation into key exports, turning Rwanda into a hub where services, skills, and ideas flow freely across the continent.
