Mauritania has officially launched commercial 5G services, becoming one of the latest African countries to adopt next-generation mobile connectivity. Telecom operator Chinguitel introduced the service recently, promising faster internet speeds, lower latency, and expanded digital services for consumers and businesses. Across Africa, 5G expansion is accelerating, with nearly 30 countries now offering commercial services as governments and telecom firms respond to rising demand for cloud computing, streaming, and digital business tools. However, industry experts warn that the technology still faces significant challenges, including high infrastructure costs, limited device affordability, and uneven internet access outside major cities. Analysts say the success of 5G adoption will depend on whether operators can expand reliable coverage while improving broader telecom infrastructure across underserved regions.
