Motherland Sounds is quickly becoming Los Angeles’ hottest celebration of East African culture. The event, which began in 2023 as a launch for honey wine, has evolved into a must-attend party and cultural movement. Blending community, activism, and music, the event spotlights East African identity, particularly Ethiopian and Eritrean, through immersive soundscapes and visuals. Co-founded by five creatives, the space champions authenticity over hype, with DJs spinning everything from vintage Sudanese funk to pan-African beats. With roots in pandemic-era conversations and inspired by icons like Nipsey Hussle, the event gives first- and second-gen East African youth a platform to connect, express themselves, and be proud of their heritage. Stylish, soulful, and grounded—Motherland Sounds is more than just a party: it is a movement.
