Sundowns Clinch Second African Champions League Title

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns claimed their second African Champions League title on Saturday, earning a 1-1 draw against Morocco’s AS FAR in Rabat to secure a 2-1 aggregate victory. Sundowns carried a narrow lead into the second leg, thanks to Aubrey Modiba’s first-leg goal. AS FAR’s Mohamed Hrimat leveled the tie from the penalty spot before halftime, but midfielder Teboho Mokoena responded with a stunning half-volley in stoppage time to restore Sundowns’ aggregate advantage. With away goals still in use, AS FAR needed two more goals—a task made significantly harder when goalkeeper Ronwen Williams heroically saved Hrimat’s second penalty in the 77th minute. The victory delivers Sundowns their first continental title since 2016, earns the club a record $6 million prize, and secures qualification for the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.
