Dangote Refinery Drops Import License Lawsuit Against NNPCL

Ancient fingerprint on artifact from Egyptian tomb, dating back 4,000 years.

Dangote Refinery has officially withdrawn its $65.3 million lawsuit against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and several others over disputed import licenses. Filed in 2024, the suit sought to nullify licenses issued by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, which Dangote argued violated the Petroleum Industry Act and undermined local refining. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) had twice attempted to join the case, claiming concerns over monopolistic practices, but was rejected by the court. With the notice of discontinuance submitted on July 28, the refinery’s legal team is expected to formally confirm the withdrawal during the next court session on September 29.
