Dangote Refinery Expands Reach with 1.6M-Barrel Storage Tanks in Namibia

Nigeria’s Dangote refinery is expanding its reach into southern Africa by building fuel storage tanks in Namibia’s Walvis Bay, capable of holding at least 1.6 million barrels of gasoline and diesel. This strategic move will enable the $20 billion, 650,000-barrels-per-day refinery to supply key markets like Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and possibly southern DRC. The development signals Dangote’s growing influence in regional fuel distribution and marks a shift in Africa’s energy trade landscape. With Nigeria already cutting fuel imports due to Dangote’s output, the refinery is now looking outward, recently sending its first gasoline cargo to Asia. Although the project cost remains undisclosed, construction is expected to begin soon, further cementing Dangote’s ambition to dominate Africa’s refined fuel market.
