Ebola Cases Surge Past 100 in DR Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo has confirmed more than 100 Ebola cases as authorities battle a rapidly expanding outbreak centered in Ituri province. According to health officials, over 900 suspected cases have been recorded since the outbreak began on May 15, with infections spreading across 11 health zones and three provinces. At least seven deaths have been confirmed by the World Health Organization. Neighboring Uganda has also reported new infections, raising fears of wider regional transmission. In response, Congolese authorities have suspended social activities in affected areas. Meanwhile, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention warned that 10 African countries face a heightened risk of cross-border transmission, prompting tighter screening and travel restrictions across the region.
